Ellie has been teaching for fifteen years now, with extensive experience in a wide range of dance styles, as well as acrobatics and vocal coaching. Growing up in rural New South Wales, she began training at the age of five, and quickly became as infatuated with the arts as she was with her favourite purple leotard. Many afternoons were spent wearing it in the backyard (it's like an Elsa dress - you never take it off) tapping on plywood while she instructed (bossed around) her brother, who shuffled and trenched in his studded footy boots.
Dance took her all over Australia, as well as overseas in Hong Kong and China, where she competed and performed, honing her skills as a versatile triple-threat entertainer. In 2005 Ellie began student-teaching under Lydia King McNamara, who remains her dearest mentor to this day. In 2007, she studied music (Voice) with the Riverina Conservatorium of Music.
Ellie moved to Sydney in 2011 to train at the prestigious ED5 International Performing Arts School, where she received an Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts, majoring in Musical Theatre. Training under William Forsythe, Elena De Cinque and Leslie Bell, and then later working as Assistant Choreographer, Elliegot to perform at a wide variety of events, meeting a lot of much wiser and more experienced teachers, mentors and performers along the way. Her two highlights are assisting and performing for Wayne Scott Kermond, and performing as backing vocalist to Jessica Mauboy and the original Sapphires at the 2013 AACTA awards.
No matter how much she loved the stage, Ellie was always drawn back to teaching and in 2015, made the decision to move to Melbourne to continue in her passion for mentoring and skill development in young performing artists. The last six years have been spent teaching both recreational and pre-professional students in all styles, with a concentration in advanced jazz technique, acrobatics, and musical theatre.
Ellie is an Acrobatic Arts certified instructor and accredited with Senior Level 2 First Aid and WWCC. She is also allergic to sickled feet and a huge fan of pulled up knees. This is Ellie's first year at Step In Time, and she is excited to see what becomes of our wonderful dancers in 2021!
